How to choose the right coach?
7 questions you must ask yourself
Thousands of coaches in the Czech Republic. Certified and uncertified. Life coaches, business coaches, executive coaches. How to navigate this and avoid wasting money?
1. Does the coach hold certification from a recognised organisation?
In the Czech Republic, anyone can call themselves a coach. There is no legal regulation. That is why certification is a key signal of quality. Look for accreditation from koucbase.cz ICF (International Coaching Federation) or EMCC (European Mentoring and Coaching Council).
ICF has three levels: ACC (basic), PCC (advanced) and MCC (master). EMCC offers EAC, EIA and EQA. The higher the level, the more coached hours required and the stricter the exams.
2. Does it specialise in what you need?
Coaching is not a one-size-fits-all solution. An executive coach who works with top managers may not be the right choice for a career change after 40. A life coach who focuses on work-life balance may not understand the specifics of an IT environment.
Look for a coach who has experience with your specific topic: career change, leadership, stress, entrepreneurship, workplace relationships.
3. How many hours have been logged on koucbase.cz?
Experience matters. ICF ACC requires a minimum of 100 hours of practice, PCC 500 hours, MCC 2 500 hours. A coach with 50 hours is at the beginning, this does not mean they are bad, but they belong to a different category.
4. How does the initial consultation take place?
Most quality coaches offer a free initial consultation of 30-60 minutes. Take advantage of it. Observe whether the coach listens or talks. Whether they ask questions or give advice. A good coach will not tell you what to do. They will help you discover it yourself.
5. What is the personal chemistry?
Chemistry is irreplaceable. Coaching is an intimate process where you share things you don't even tell those closest to you. If the coach doesn't suit your personality, it won't work regardless of certifications.
6. What is the price and payment model?
Prices in the Czech Republic range from 1,500 to 8,000 Kč per hour. A very low price may indicate a beginner coach. A very high price does not necessarily mean better results. The optimum for an experienced certified coach is 3,000-5,000 Kč/hour.
Ask about packages: many coaches offer discounted prices with a commitment to 6 or 12 sessions.
7. What ratings do they have from previous clients?
Reviews from real customers are the best indicator. Look for specific descriptions of changes and results, not just general praise. On koucbase.cz you will find ratings of verified coaches with detailed reviews.
